Information Workshop on Participating in the Government of Canada’s Review Panel on Accessible Housing

This is an important opportunity for people living with multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) to make their voices heard.
The Government of Canada is currently examining the lack of accessible housing in Canada and is inviting people with disabilities to speak directly about the barriers they face. For people living with MCS, this includes issues such as exposure to fragrances, pesticides, smoke, cleaning chemicals, renovations, mould, poor indoor air quality, inaccessible shelters, and the lack of safe and affordable housing.
Your experiences matter.
This review panel can make recommendations directly to the federal government. The information shared by people across Canada may help influence future housing policies, accessibility measures, and protections for people living with MCS.
You have until June 22, 2026, to complete and submit the questionnaire to the National Housing Council.
To support the community in participating, ASEQ-EHAQ and EHAC-ASEC are organizing an interactive information workshop.
During the workshop:
- We will explain the federal review process in plain language
- Walk through the questionnaire step-by-step
- Help participants understand what kinds of barriers and experiences can be included
- Discuss documentation and examples
- Answer questions live
- Provide suggestions and guidance to support participants in preparing their responses.
You may begin filling out the questionnaire in advance and save your progress to continue later.
The suggestions provided during the workshop are intended to support and guide you. You are encouraged to adapt your responses to reflect your own lived experience, needs, and priorities.
This is your chance to help decision-makers understand the realities faced by people living with MCS in accessing safe, accessible, and healthy housing in Canada.

Legal workshops on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) titled ‘Accessible justice and human rights for persons with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity’ will be presented across Canada and will deliver a presentation on specific human rights related issues as they relate to people with the disability of MCS. This event reflects the ongoing efforts to become a better, more accessible, and more inclusive society and offers the possibility to discuss legal aspects related to access to justice, and advancing equity, diversity and inclusion within the legal profession. The presentation will cover both the medical and legal aspects of MCS, including lived experience of the condition and human rights specific to each province across Canada.
This event stems from the Empowering Community and Removal of Barriers (ECRoB) project, funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Partnership Programs, Disability Component. One of the primary objectives of the ECRoB project is to build capacity and inclusion by educating people who experience the disability of MCS on their rights and to increase their access to legal support and other information to effectively manage their disabilities.

Medical Aspects of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS):
A disability with growing prevalence
The increasing prevalence of many chronic diseases, their exacerbations and comorbidity are adding to the burden on health care. The World Health Organization has now declared air pollution as a top five risk factor for cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurodegenerative disorders, along with tobacco use, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, and harmful use of alcohol. However, education in environmental health is lacking in under- and postgraduate training, and professional development. This presentation will review the significance of taking an environmental exposure history, the health impacts of pollution, and recently published evidence for the pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for chemical sensitization in susceptible individuals. This includes those with autistic spectrum disorder, asthma, and migraines, as well as an emergent and increasingly prevalent condition, commonly known as multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS).
Hosted by the Environmental Health Association of Canada and the Environmental Health Association of Québec, this event provides introductory, evidence-based education for medical professionals informed by a patient-centered and patient-led care approach to encourage medical best practices for MCS and other environmentally linked conditions.

Who is this event for?
Given the increasing prevalence of MCS and the barriers people with MCS experience accessing healthcare, this event is for all medical and allied health professionals to assist in removing barriers, providing appropriate support, and improving care.
