
Susanne Hempel, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at the University of Southern California (USC) and the Director of the Southern California Evidence Review Center. The Center is one of 11 Evidence-based Practice Centers (EPCs) selected by the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to conduct evidence reviews for federal agencies.
Dr. Hempel oversees a large portfolio of multi-site and multi-disciplinary evidence reviews. Her work spans systematic reviews, scoping reviews, evidence maps, landscape reviews, rapid reviews, expert panels, and methodological work to advance research syntheses. She has consistently appeared on the annual list of the top 2% of most-cited scientists since the Stanford/Elsevier ranking began in 2019.
Dr. Hempel teaches in the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention programs at USC. Her background is in personality psychology and individual differences.
